"RIGHT lets get the scales out!"

Bodyweight!

An obvious factor in any cutting diet is bodyweight, it is essentially the substructure of my(and most) plan's.
It's what determines my starting calories in my cut and also, I let my body weight be the signal to tell me when I need to cut more calories from my diet.

My rule for my cut is

"if the bodyweight is going down then I don't change calorie intake - if I plateau and its stops then its time to cut a little bit more"!

Measuring your bodyweight -

I.M.O a good scales is essential. Just because you have a good one down the gym, might not cut it.

WHY?

I want to leave as little a margin for error as possible. Your gonna hear me say this a lot when talking about my diet but it all needs to be consistent. You can use that scales in your gym, as long as you can always make sure factors like clothing, time of day, footwear etc are always the same.
I think measuring your weight at home is the best way, ease of accessibility is always an advantage, no one in the locker room if you body conscious and you won't mind weighing yourself undressed - easily maintained constant factors! Try to pick the same time any day your weighing yourself. I like first thing in the morning when I wake up- right before I jump in the shower.

Accuracy

Originally I had an old non-branded mechanical scales...T.B.H I didn't think it was too reliable you know the one... You stand on it repeatedly over and over in the space of a few minutes, the dial spins around and somehow or another it never lands on the same number.... well I chucked that in the bin! I went online to see could I pick up a good one. There was a lot of cheaper scales available on amazon for around £10 (14 euros) like the Duronic BS501 Touch Sense Body Fat Analyser.

It had some good reviews and seemed like a decent buy, I was close to buying it. But I thought maybe I should try find something a little better.
After doing a bit more digging I came across the Salter EasyView Digital Analyser Bathroom Scales. I picked it up for around 25 euros all in with delivery off amazon. One thing I noticed when buying online is bigger brands usually offer a better warranty. Especially with the brand "SALTER". A lot of their products come with a 15-year warranty.

It had all the features you would expect....It's got different programmable settings for different users and offers different measurements apart from weight, like body fat analysis, hydration, and BMI. The scales takes normal AAA batteries which are cheap and easy to come by. The display on it is oversized and lights up so it is easy to see if you forget to turn the light on when you are weighing yourself on those dark winter mornings. What I liked the most is that it came with a 15-year warranty... To me that shows Salter have faith in the products! I have owned it for a while now. Id highly recommend it, very accurate and has a humongous max weight of 200kg - which I'd like to say ill get there some day -with sub 10% bodyfat LOL! Yeah maybe in my dreams.

I Weighed in at 95kg for the start of my cut @ approx 14% bodyfat using a 7 point caliper reading

I did notice thought that if I had the budget to spend, there were some dearer scales which had wifi and apps that you could download to your phone like the Withings Body Cardio - Heart Health & Body Composition WiFi Scales. It had some cool features like bone mass and it automatically knew the settings for different people as they stood on it. Also it could also be used for nutrition and calories. One feature that I thought was really advanced for a weighing scales was the heart monitoring ability - pulse and wave velocity! I know it sounds cool... someday maybe ill get to check it out.

The salter easy view scales is tough to beat though, and I can definitely see me having it for the foreseeable future. Anyway now I know my bodyweight I can then use it to calculate my calorie requirements on my cut. If you have any feedback please contact me via HERE

My next post I will be talking about Calories - How I Calculate them and how I Cut them!

Cheers talk soon.
